the Brits, the BAFTAs, what next for the Oscars?

So, we've had gimp masks and bondage at the Brits, lace and black McQueen at the BAFTA's - it's been a rollercoaster ride withe Gaga at the healm screeching for JonBenet Ramsey and a saline drip. With all this Brit eccentricity flying about in the Fashion capital, what can we expect from our yankee counterparts? Lets remind ourselves of all this fashion extravangance...



Lady Gaga, you crazy thing...what shall we do with you - admire you? adore you? or simply wrap you up in tin foil and roast you for all your fashion bizarrrrrities.And lace gimp - so the seasons hottest new trend - if you cant hack another round of florals...



...and Cheryl Cole, even if your marriage is on the rocks, this 80's revival is not one I can agree with - bad, bad choice...



Another fabulous lady red-head - oh Florence, how we do love thee...and the anatomy-influenced dress - me likey!




....Cabaret, Lily Allen? Fabulous!!!

It's my bet that for the Oscar's, McQueen will be out in force, followed by a touch of Erdem - the Brit designer of the moment, followed by a dash of the favourites - Dior, Galliano et al. Let's hope we can steer clear of that all too easy Gaga overkill, and the nude and orange-tango-tan disaster combo, and we might be on the track to some fanciful fashion favourites...even if we really know that us Brits did it first, and did it best!

Sex and the City 2 - Hot or Not?!

I for one am rather excited about the new Sex and the City 2 movie, due for release in May - whether to check out the fabulous outfits - fashion genius Vs fashion disaster (Patricia Field - you shall be critiqued!), or to ponder over the ageing looks of the four gals - seriously, perhaps its time to give those plunging necklines a miss, Miss Samantha 50-something! Either way, it seems our favourite city ladies are off for some fabulous new adventures overseas (shall we look out for a fleeting view of a Friday night Ocean gathering, or Thursday morning Crisis hangover?!) with gorgeous guys and pint-sized pups trailing at their feet - not Stamford sweetie, the dog! So, check out the trailer and whet your appetite for a heady fashion treat of belts, buckles, turbans and tiaras - fashion junkies, eat your heart out!

On my most recent jaunt down to the mecca of all things fashion and fabulous, La Londres, or London to any normal people other than I, I rediscovered my love of this mazingly kitsch little boutique, in the heart of Spitalfieds - Queens; and believe me, the clue is all in the title...

'Queens is one of a kind, unlike any found in London, or indeed the world. Their unique gifts range from kissing pink poodles, kissing fishes, fat mermaids, fairy dresses, seasonal gifts and accessories.

To top it off, it's all gift wrapped in pink tissue and fairy dust! Visit this fairyland world now.'

...as the spitalfields reporter rightly states, this little wonder is unlike anything seen before; its all around your head, whizzing in your ears and filling up your eyeballs in a wonder of pink and sparkle - not for the faint of stomachs, with a hangover to fit the market, I can assure you!

But this little wonder is certainly worth a visit, if simply to take in the amazing almagation of so many gifts, trinkets, and decorations - most of which I cannot remember enough to describe - its like a whirlwind in my mind!

and let me know, if any of you manage to make it out alive, what it is you purchased, and whether or not it looked quite so good at home, unsurrounded by its hundreds of other sparkling companions...I think perhaps not.

'The 1st Saturday of every month at The Ropewalk means Flea Market time! If your arty and would like to display, sell or create work in our upstairs space we would love to hear from you. Anyone that wants to come and admire as well as meet other lovely crafty folk should get involved. There will also be some great local musical talent giving the soundtrack to the market. We also want to hear from performing artists, comedians and anyone else who has a creative mind.'

Top 5 Vintage shops to visit in Notts...

Some of you lovely fashionable students may be Nottingham shopping veterans, but for those who aren't so wise to the ways of the retail world in this amazing city, it's time to get the low-down! So check it out, our list of the top five vintage shops to check out in Notts - get out your purses and get on a spree! (for directions, type the details into google maps!) More to follow soon...

        'Cow'
- 2 George Street, NG1 3BE (over the hill from Bodega)
- Carefully edited vintage finds, with everything from handbags and necklaces to sequined tops and cowboy boots. Well priced with party dresses for just over £10 and tops from £4, as well as a range of up and coming designers make this a vintage must!



        'Vintage Warehouse'
- 82-84 Lower Parliament Street, NG1 1EH (down the road from Oceana, opp. the Post Office)
- A huge warehouse shop filled with piles of dresses, coats, bags, skirts and jumpers; it's a vintage-shopper's paradise! With amazingly cheap prices and the ability to haggle for that extra pound or two, it's well worth the extra few paces the morning after the night before down the road at Oceana. And they do alterations too - what could be better?

       'Oxfam Boutique'
- 16-22 Goose Gate, NG1 1FF (opp. Brownes, next to Market Bar)
- A fabulou s little vintage boutique store from the UK's best known charity organisation. Cleverly and neatly laid out, this shop is a mix of old and new, where some days you may find nothing at all, but on others, it's worth the journey. Best for retro dresses and quirky granny bags - and it's all for charity!



        'Celia's Vintage Clothing'
- 66-68 Derby Road, NG1 5FD (down the road from the Ropewalk, opp. side)
- Est. 1980's, selling men's and women's vintage clothing and luggage, as well as an extensive range of fancy dress costumes, available for hire. Set over three floors, the store offers an extensive range of vintage finds, in a treasure-trove environment, fit for a queen!


        'Kathleen & Lily's'
- 205 Mansfield Road, NG1 3FS (the road behind the Victoria Centre)
- 'Fighting the war against the mundane' Kathleen & Lily's is a fabulous little shop by a local design duo, specialising in vintage recycled and customised clothing. From quirky necklaces to delicate retro nighties, the designers make as they do, customising and creating in front of your very eyes within their cute little abode. The prices are reasonable, plus there's the opportunity for those budding designers out there to share in the love by showcasing their own talent - fabulous!
